At this age, some toddlers like things "just so." Along with tantrums and exploration, stubborness is another charachteristic of toddlerhood. Respect his preferences and try to give in on the little things, like which shirt to wear or if he'd like an apple or a banana. You toddler must understand though that some things are not up for negotiation.
Soon it will be time to switch your toddler to a big bed before he's able to climb out of the crib on his own. The transition may be rocky — you might find him getting out of bed just after you leave the room or making visits to your bed in the middle of the night. But in time, he'll settle in to his new sleeping arrangements.
