Clipping Baby's Nails

publishdate
0 Comments

You will be surprised to notice how quickly a newborn's nails grow. Therefore, it is necessary to keep them trimmed, to prevent your baby from scratching his face. There are three common ways to keep baby's nails under control. Regardless of how you trim baby's nails, there are a few bits of advice to follow. Trim baby's nails while he's sleeping. It is unlikely to disturb him, and he won't be moving around as much.Sit baby on your lap, facing away from you. This will give you a better "view" and allow for more control.Don't cut too much. Avoid cutting too much of the nail off, as ingrown nails may occur.

Your first option is a pair of nail clippers. Make sure to use clippers specifically designed for babies. You should also clean them with alcohol before each use.

A second option is a pair of nail scissors. Again, there are scissors designed for baby nails, which offer safety precautions to avoid cuts.

Finally, you may opt to simply file baby's nails. This allows mom the opportunity to smooth off corners and snags. There is also the advantage of not having to worry about cutting baby's sensitive skin.

Even a seasoned veteran may slip now and again, snipping a bit of baby's skin along with the nail. Should this happen, simply wash the area with water, and apply a bit of pressure. Chances are, baby will forget about the snip long before you do!
