Product Review: The Safe Sleeper Crib Sheet
When considering the overall number of live births each year, SIDS remains the leading cause of death in the United States among infants between 1 month and 1 year of age and second only to congenital anomalies as the leading overall cause of death for all infants less than 1 year of age. (National Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Resource Center) According to The American Academy of Pediatrics, "Several reports described that in a significant number of SIDS cases, the heads of the infants, including some infants who slept supine, were covered by loose bedding. Many of these studies found loose bedding to be an epidemiologic risk factor for SIDS."
Being a mother of two babies, I was delighted to hear that Owen Enterprises, creator of the Safe Sleeper Crib Sheets, had designed a safe crib sheet. I have been given the chance to review the Safe Sleeper Crib Sheet and I think it's the best idea since the disposable diaper!
The Safe Sleeper Crib Sheet easily slips over the mattress like a pillow case, and attaches at one end with Velcro. There is virtually NO WAY a child can pull the sheet off the mattress.
What prompted the design of the Safe Sleeper Crib Sheet?
Haline Hillegass, owner of Owen Enterprises and the mother of 2 children, had almost lost her napping son due to loose sheets. "In 1995, I walked in to check on my napping son, and found him wrapped in his crib sheet; somehow he had managed to pull it off the mattress and become entangled in it.", said Haline. "I was lucky enough to have found him before he harmed himself, but unfortunately, many parents have not been so lucky, and have lost their precious children after they strangled themselves with their crib sheets. This is a COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE TRAGEDY AND I AM TRYING TO ENSURE THAT IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN."
