Ok, so why is there virtually no information about broken cervical capillaries when asking about first trimester bleeding? i was so scared when twice this weekend (6 weeks 4 days pregnant) i bled in 2 separate "spurts", bright red, no clots, no cramps, but way more blood than my period ever had (i could actually feel it coming out). a frantic search online had these same potential causes. 1. implantation (ok, we're way past that. 2. miscarriage. 3. eptopic, and getting progressively worse from there. not one "hey it could be as simple as a broken capillary"?! well that is what it was, i could have saved myself a lot of tears and stress if that potential cause were a little more well known. i get they want us to go see a doctor with any bleeding, but it would have been nice to see that as #2 instead of going straight to the m word. all is well and my baby's little heart is beating like a champ, but i wanted everyone to know my experience.

Thank you for this message. i just experienced the same thing. i am still going to go to the doctor and get checked out, but this made the constant sobbing slow down. i am hoping that it is not the "m" and is something like a broken cervical capillary, like you suggest. thank you again! heart broken mommy

I am 18 weeks pregnant and i started bleeding a week ago, it started as brown discharge which i also experience when i was 7 weeks pregnant but then went off. this time i woke up in the night 7 days ago after having brown discharge for 2 days, i woke in a pool of blood, went straight to the hospital and they kept me in over night the next morning they scanned the baby and everything seemed to be fine, i am still bleeding now a week on with heavy bright red and sometimes dark red blood and big clots the size of the palm of my hand. this is all very worrying and the only decent information i have had from the doctor today after another scan which showed no blood behind or around placenta, placenta not lying that low and baby surrounded by lots of liquid and cervix closed. i was then told that the cervix is made of lots of blood vessels and its possible that i have burst a vessel and that's where the bleeding is coming from, i have been put on high risk for my pregnancy. this is my second child and i am experiencing no pain at this time. any ideas from any1? i am terrified and so upset worrying at every gush when i stand up or go to the loo and with every large and small clot.

I went through a similar experience with my second child. i bleed and spotted throughout the entire pregnancy. they never found anything wrong. after she was born they finally figured out that she was so large that she pressed down on my bladder the whole time. she weighed 9#9oz. good luck

I'm 18 weeks pregnant.. when i went pee an wiped there was a couple of pen dot sized, bright red, blood specs on the toilet paper.. im very concerned!! is this a miscarriage?? please someone answer my question

concerned Jan 25, 2013 09:54:58 AM ET

Hi, i have had the same thing... i am 16 weeks pregnant and today i wiped and saw a pen size red dot..i wiped thrice and the same pen size dot came on the toilet paper, after that though there was nothing... i called the nurse and she said its normal to spot and that the blood is too little to worry about, also if you are under 20 weeks there is nothing they can do as baby is too small. she said also that if the blood is like a teaspoon size it should be a concern. so lets pray our babies are healthy and well and that we are too..
