The culture of baby names is ever- changing. Some years are dominated by the modern and trendy while others favor the old-fashioned and traditional. Certain names stay in the top 100 every year, solid perennial favorites.

Knowing the favorites of 2010 can be a tool for parents-to-be expecting babies in 2011. Some like to know the hottest names so they can avoid them while others use the lists to get ideas or confirmation of their choices.

It comes down to whether you prefer your child to have a popular, common, or unusual name. Maybe you don't want the exact hottest name but you want a certain type of name and don't want relatives to respond the way people did when Gwyneth named Apple...Apple. Perhaps you'd rather your child have one or two other children in their school with the same name than for people to say, "Your name is what?" It's a personal choice.
