Show Off Your Baby Bump... Celebrity Style

Once you begin to show, you have to make a decision; do I wear regular clothes only in bigger sizes or do I bite the bullet and don the maternity wardrobe, or some combination of both? Many women opt to reveal their blossoming figure as a baby bump so others won't mistakenly think they are just getting big and sloppy. However, the how to show it off is a personal style choice.

At the Beach

While grabbing some sun and surf, should you go maternity tank style? The hot trend according to celebrities is to forgo the modest maternity wear and let it all hang out in baby bump baring bikinis. While on a romantic Hawaii trip with hubby Brian Austin Green, Megan Fox wore an itsy bikini and revealed her tummy June of 2012. Likewise, Beyonce and Jay-Z enjoyed some beach time while Beyonce was expecting. She wore a two piece flouncy white bandeau top and ruffled white bottom. While not so skimpy, she did dare to bare her belly. Other bikini wearing pregnant celebrities have included Jessica Alba, Hallie Berry, Lily Allen, Kate Hudson, Tori Spelling, Gisele Bundchen, Jenna Dawan-Tatum, Pink, Uma Thurman, Alicia Keys to mention a sampling.

Go With Lace

A new trend for maternity wear is lace, especially over a sheer or nude fabric. This style has been a notable trend especially with skin tight dresses of black lace over sheer fabric as worn by Amber Rose who wore mostly sheer with sparse patches of black lace. Others wearing this style have included Brittany Perrineau who wore a clingy black dress with a more demure and thicker patterned lace dress. Kelly MacDonald opted for a black fitted maternity dress with lace accents around the neckline. Kim Kardashian opted for the tight black lace dress for her New Year's Eve outfit. Know your setting and whether you need heavier lace or more sheer.

Stretchy Lycra Dresses

It may seem counter-intuitive but when you are at your biggest tummy-wise go ahead and show it off with a tight clingy dress in any shade you like. It's no longer considered inappropriate or unattractive to let your tummy be center stage. All kinds of stars have been seen in clingy dresses like this while in their second and third trimesters such as Christina Applegate, Busy Phillipps and others. Watch out for where the cling is, however. You want to show off the bump not lumps in other regions.

Workout Wear

Stars from Kim Kardashian to Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Garner, Kristin Cavallari, have been seen wearing workout wear, whether they opt for tight Spandex or roomy jersey, they show it's cool to stay in shape while growing a baby bump. What's not so cool? Wearing workout clothes out and about when you aren't going to the gym. Kim Kardashian has been seen wearing her spandex pants to appointment with lawyer and other non-workout outings. At some point people will think you are just being lazy and you'll feel less than pretty as well.

Flowing Feminine Fabrics

Some looks are classics and ever in style because they so suit the ultra feminine time of pregnancy. This doesn't mean dowdy however. Remember Beyonce's bright flowing orange dress at the MTV Video Awards? Kourtney Kardashian rocked her baby bump in flowing maxi dresses. Flowing and feminine was Gwyneth Paltrow's regular style whether in a silky classic dress or a lacy long ivory gown. Some of Jennifer Lopez' best maternity moments were of flowing feminine styles.

Whatever style you decide to try, remember to go with colors and fabrics that appeal to you because if you don't feel comfortable and like yourself, it will show through. Take inspiration from celebrity moms-to-be but make your style all your own!
