The Royal Baby: How Kate Handled Her Pregnancy

Now that the royal heir to the throne has finally arrived, it's fun to look back at all the hoopla that Prince William and Kate inspired.

Kate wasn't rushed.

While Princess Diana had a virtual whirlwind of courtship, engagement, marriage and baby Kate and William definitely took the scenic route to all these destinations. Kate and William dated for several years before getting engaged and the baby arrived about two years after the wedding.

Sometimes the baby spills the beans about the baby.

With Kate, extreme morning sickness landed her in the hospital for a few days in early December which ruined the royal baby secret. Princess Diana also suffered from bouts of sickness and weakness during her pregnancies.

Kate handled speculation over her less than prominent baby bump in the early months.

Some scrutinized how much the Duchess was gaining and if she was being healthy enough, leading supporters to point out that Kate is naturally slender and she was a mirror of her own mother during pregnancy.

New rules take over during her pregnancy.

With this child's birth, the line of succession rules are changed so that whether a son or daughter is born, that child will be next in line to the throne after Prince William.

The first royal couple to take a babymoon.

Prince William and Kate take an expectant parent trip to the island of Mustique in the Caribbean.

Gender questions abound during the royal pregnancy.

In March, Kate tells a soldier at a St. Patrick's Day parade that she is hoping for a son, while Prince William is wishing for a daughter. The couple goes against the vast majority of expectant parents in this day and technological age, and opts to not learn the gender of the baby before the birth.

Kate makes her mark among all pregnant celebs with her impeccable sense of style.

No tight mini-dresses for the bearer of the royal bun. She is featured by style magazines all over the globe for her fashion taste.

Kate plans for a modern birth. Like Diana, she delivered the royal heir in a hospital.

Prince William was the first future king to be born in a hospital, and the royal couple chose the same hospital; St. Mary's hospital in London in a private wing. She discusses her options and plans for a natural birth and possibly hypnobirthing. Prince William will not be nervously set outside the delivery room, either. He stayed by her side.

Kate is the first royal to have a baby shower, given by her sister Pippa.

However, we sadly are in the dark as to any details on the bash. Guess we have to just imagine.

In keeping with tradition, the baby's birth was announced with an easel and fancy parchment outside the castle gates.

Again, this was the case with the birth of Prince William. However, unlike William, this birth announcement was launched electronically as well, lighting up the twittersphere.

Should we even say this?

It is announced that part of the news that will be released is whether the baby is born via c-section or vaginally. We hear it was a normal, vaginal birth.

Prince William and Kate present their son almost immediately.

This again mirrors the birth of William, and Diana and Kate both wore cornflower blue dresses for the introduction.

Privacy ruled.

Throughout the pregnancy, the royal couple proved they were adamant about sharing only so much of their lives. They sued when pics were snapped of Kate pregnant and clad in a bikini. After the brutal assault of paparazzi that followed Princess Diana everywhere, Prince William seems intent on protecting his family. No news of the gender or name chosen ever leaked out.

The public followed all the royal baby news with close attention.

It's amazing that a being only moments old is talked about the world over almost instantly. This royal heir's life is likely to continue to be tied to tradition yet defined by modern touches.

William and Kate name their baby.
