Baby and Kids Sunscreen Recalled Due to Contamination
Elizabeth Keefe |26, September 2013If you have been putting sunscreen on your baby recently, it's time to check the bottle! On September 25, 2013, W.S. Badger Co. Inc. issued a full recalled all of its four ounce SPF 30 Baby Sunscreen Lotion. Badger has also recalled one lot of its four ounce SPF 30 Kids Sunscreen Lotion.
After testing the sunscreen products, they were found to be contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida parapsilosis and Acremonium fungi. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the microbial contaminations in the sunscreen may cause mild or serious infections in people with weakened immune systems, including:
- Blood Infections (Pseudomonas aeruginosa),
- Pneumonia (Pseudomonas aeruginosa),
- Yeast Infections (Candida parapsilosis), and
- Fungal Infections (Acremonium fungi)
The sunscreens have been sold in the U.S. and Canada in major retail stores, online, and in pharmacies. If you have recently purchased Badger sunscreen, please take a look at the bottle. If the UPC code, which can be found on the top front of the tube, matches one of the following codes, please discontinue use immediately and return the product to the store you purchased it from to receive a full refund.
