Royal Baby On The Way: Princess Charlene Is Expecting

On May 30, 2014 the Palace of Monaco released a statement about the couple's good news! "T.S.H the Prince and the Princess of Monaco are delighted to announce the pregnancy of H.S.H. Princess Charlene. The birth is expected at the end of the year."

This will be the royal couple's first child together. There have been some recent additions to the royalty of Monaco, with Princess Caroline becoming a grandmother twice in 2013. Her son, Andrea Casiraghi, had a son in March with Tatianna Santo Domingo. They named him Sacha Casiraghi. In December, Caroline's daughter, Charlotte Casiraghi, had a son, Raphael Elmaleh, with a comedic actor from France, Gad Elmaleh.

While the throne was set to be passed on to Princess Caroline, now that Albert II will have a legitimate child, that child will now be in line. Prince Albert II has two children, Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, age 22, and Alexandre Coste, age 10. However, Albert did not marry either of those children's mothers.

The Prince and Princess married on July 1, 2011. Princess Charlene was born in South Africa and was an Olympic swimmer. She is 36 years old.

Approximately one year ago, Charlene spoke to a publication based in South Africa and expressed a desire to start a family. "Now I'm settled and I think kids will come. I don't put any pressure on myself. If it happens, it happens."

In April she gave an interview from the Palace in which she spoke of her relationship with Prince Albert. "My husband is my biggest support, the person that I confide in and who knows me best."

Also notable about that interview was the jewel she wore; the Ocean tiara, given to her by Prince Albert II, contains 850 diamonds and 359 sapphires of varying shades, to mimic ocean waves.

In a recent issue of Vanity Fair, the princess told the magazine, want motherhood very much, but everything is in God's hands," she told the magazine.

"As a couple we have been through many difficult moments and profound changes in our personal lives, but being together has always been a challenge that has brought us together. I have boundless confidence in our love."

She again stated her admiration for Prince Albert II, adding, "Prince Albert is my husband, but he has also always been my best friend, and has been able to help me overcome obstacles that seemed insurmountable."

The couple sent out a short statement of their own following the official announcement, saying they were filled with "immense joy" with the pregnancy.
