Celebrities Who Packed on the Pregnancy Pounds

by Katlyn Joy | October 5, 2014 10:17 AM0 Comments

Ah, it must be nice to have a personal trainer, a cook, a nutritionist, and if all else fails, airbrushing to help get back into shape after baby. However, even with all the help, it is harder to lose the baby weight, if you gain more than the recommended amount for your frame.

Here are some celebrity moms who strained the scales, and gained too much weight while expecting a baby:

Molly Sims: 50 lbs

Molly and her husband Scott Stuber welcomed baby Brooks Allan back in July of 2012. Molly made no secret of the fact that while pregnant she put on 50 pounds. Her post baby regime was to get plenty of rest, breastfeed and get about 1,600 calories a day. She had a c-section so she couldn't get back at heavy work outs right away.

Jessica Simpson: 50 lbs

In her first pregnancy with daughter Maxwell, Jessica gained 50 pounds and admits she felt insecure at that weight. She famously dropped the pounds as a Weight Watchers spokesperson. Her advice? "It is a really hard thing to go through. And you deserve to eat your ice cream, you deserve to have your pancakes. Do whatever you want to do and then afterwards just know that you have to work really hard."

Salma Hayak: 50 lbs

Salma gained 50 pounds and had an unusual way of describing the experience. "I gained so much weight, I got an opportunity to see myself completely disfigured in many different ways - for a very good reason - and I don't regret it for a second. That's when I started appreciating my body. The things that I used to criticize, they were not that bad after all."

Hilary Duff: 50 lbs

In a refreshing honest and normal admission, Hilary confessed a 50 pound weight gain while pregnant and that it took a human amount of time to shed it; one year. She lost it by eating right and doing boxing as well as yoga. Nothing crazy—no starvation diets and no corset torture devices.

Drew Barrymore: 40 lbs

She just seems like the girl next door, and her candid interviews let us in on the fact that with baby Olive she gained a bit extra 40 pounds. She indulged her cravings for cheeseburgers and ice cream while pregnant, but afterwards worked with a nutritionist to get the weight back down. Her focus was whole foods, veggies and green smoothies. The gym however may have to wait in Drew's world. She'd just rather spend time being a mom. "We live in a society where everyone's like, 'Look at how amazing she looks two weeks out.' I don't want to be on that hamster wheel; that's hell."

Vanessa Lachey: 65 lbs

The normally svelte star packed on 65 pounds with her first child with husband Nick Lachey. While she dropped the weight and regained her figure, her focus is not about quick results. ""It's not about this 'get skinny quick' diet or these fads. Just enjoy time being a mom. You've just had this wonderful, magical moment, and you shouldn't be stressing about that kind of stuff." If that isn't good enough, she recommends with a laugh, Spanx.

Beyonce: 57 lbs

Apparently, the megastar gained some mega weight, reportedly 57 pounds." I didn't have a lot of time to lose the weight, because I scheduled a show three months after I gave birth, which I would never do again." She admits she's never been naturally thin, and to get back into shape, she had to stick to a strict diet and exercise regimen. Her secrets: cardio, lunges, dancing and lean meat and veggies to eat.

Pink: 55 lbs

The singer gained 55 pounds while pregnant with daughter Willow. The usually lithe songstress indulged in cheesecake and sour candies while pregnant. She didn't rush into losing the weight, but when she decided it was time, she went hard. She enlisted celeb trainer Jillian Michaels as well as other professionals and began with an 11 day cleanse. Then she reintroduced proteins to her diet with loads of fiber and good fats. Sugars were kept close to workout times only. She ate lots of fresh veggies and grains. As for the workouts, they were intense, at 60 to 90 minutes five days a week.
