Pregnancy and Smoking

by Anne Sommers, Licensed Midwife | 0 Comments

Q I'm 22 years old and married. Me and my husband are planning to have kids. But I'm afraid because during my college days I use to smoke, will it effect my embrio? I'm really afraid of this matter, can you please kindly advice what to do ?

A Don't be afraid. Just do not smoke now or be around second hand smoke. Though the smoking was not good for your body - lungs, arteries, etc. there is no known evidence that I know of that it will hurt your future baby. The danger in pregnant women smoking is that it cuts off the oxygen to the placenta and the baby. One in three of those babies are born premature.

Best wishes
