What do you think? (confused rant)

  • I'm so confused. I'm hoping someone has more insight into this mess than I do.

So, I'm on cd 17(yep, 17!!!!!!) and just took my trigger shot this a.m. at 6:00 as per dr's orders. So far, my cycle has looked something like this:
Cd1- Af shows (3 days early)
    cd 2 -baseline u/s b/w
    cd3-5 follistim 125
    cd (6-15) -follistim 100
    cd 16 -follistim 50

u/s on cd 11 showed 2 follies(15,13) on left and 4 under 10 on rt.
    u/s on cd 13 showed 3 follies (17,15, 12) on left , 3 under 12 on rt.
u/s on cd 16 showed 2 follies (23,17) on left and 4 under 14 on rt.

    cd 16 b/w - E2 was 259, P-.09 Lh-4.9 (no sign of a surge)

My doc is saying that I really only have 1 good follicle this cycle(the 23), because that 17 is cresent shaped and all squished up against the other. Something about it being hard to measure. Reguardless, he's not counting it.

My IUI is scheduled tommorrow at 1:30 and all these numbers have me thinking I've got a snowballs chance at best. For starts, what is with the "disappearing" folicles? And why the heck am I just now tiggering on cd 17. Is that 23 follicle even good anymore? Do they have expiration dates? Why can't we count the 17? What's up with the half follistim dose last night? Finally, Why is my IUI scheduled less than 36 hrs. after my trigger shot? We're using frozen fellas here, and they only live 6-12 hrs at best.

I know these are all questions for my RE, that I should call and ask, but I don't want to be the crazy infertility patient especially if I'm overlooking the logical part of this equation. I did ask him point blank the other day if it was worth it to continue this cycle with just the one follie. He said flatly we'd have the 10% chance we have any cycle. I swear I'm going to have to become a fertlity specialist myself just so I can understand all this stuff. The only bright spot here is that my E2 is a nice #, something I sometimes have issues with.

Has anybody every done, or heard of a cycle protocol like this one? Got any ideas? Any fertility specialist out there lurking who will comment. I won't hold you to it. I promise.

Honey, I have no clue on any of this!! It sure sounds like the RE is rooting for you and trying to help you make the most of any opportunity.

Maybe it's not for you to understand it all medically, but just to have some faith in. Like the way I don't understand anything about my house or how gas gets pumped in to be exposed to a flame, yet it doesn't blow the whole thing sky high. I think you have to trust the RE and the system he knows....

I'm so sorry this is so hard and confusing. I am keeping you in my thoughts and hoping that your healty, sticky, BFP comes your way soon so the science of it all is a distant memory.

  • It sounds like you have a nice folli at 23mm. The trigger shot should help the release and I think it actually sounds like a good cycle.

For starts, what is with the "disappearing" folicles? From what I remember from all of my IF treatments you more dominant follicles are the ones that reach maturity

And why the heck am I just now tiggering on cd 17. My RE always triggered at 18mm but I know some dr's like to wait until they're over 20mm and since at your last u/s it was at 17mm he probably wanted to wait one more day

Is that 23 follicle even good anymore? Yes!

Do they have expiration dates? Not sure on this one but Im thinking that since its a healthy looking folli the only time it would be considered a bust is if the folli stopped growing or shrank

Why can't we count the 17? Maybe because of the shape? Also, if by any chance the 17mm one is good the trigger shot will help it drop the egg and it wont matter if he "counted" it or not, it will either drop or not but think of it as a bonus folli!

What's up with the half follistim dose last night? Im not familiar with follitism so maybe someone else knows?

Finally, Why is my IUI scheduled less than 36 hrs. after my trigger shot? We're using frozen fellas here, and they only live 6-12 hrs at best. In my experience the trigger would release the egg within 24hrs and since the sperm you have only lives 6-12hrs you have a better shot of conceiving if the egg has already dropped..they have a shorter trip that way!

I think you have a great shot and I hope this ends in a BFP for you! HTH!

  • I'm with Tammi--I think it's a good sign that your doc is being so vigilant and I think the 23 is GREAT!!

I look forward to hearing good things about this cycle!!
