These people are clueless, part 2

  • My parents are both very hard of hearing, but they wear hearing aids, so they should hear ok. The problem is my mother is so used to not being able to hear people that she doesn't listen. She assumes what you're going to say, and then hears you wrong. If you can get her to focus, she hears fine.

So before I left for the Sox game last night, I gave them four pages of details about the boys' schedules, what you have to be careful of with Marek, where things are, etc. One detail I didn't have on there was that Lukas sleeps on his tummy. So I told her that. Here's the conversation:

Me: Lukas sleeps on his tummy. I know you're not supposed to put a baby down on his tummy, but he won't sleep on his back.

Mom: A lot of babies sleep better on their stomachs, but everybody tells you not to put them down that way.

Me: I know, but neither one of my kids will sleep on his back.

Mom: Well, he can almost roll over now, so he should be fine.

I thought this confirmed that she understood the situation.

We got home at 11:30, and my mom was in the glider in Lukas's room with him sleeping. She said he wouldn't stay asleep when she put him down. I took him away from her, put him down on his tummy, and he stayed asleep. And she acted SURPRISED that I would put him down on his tummy?????

I swear it was as if the earlier conversation had never happened.
