  • Congrats! That is awesome that you got pregnant on your own. It seems as if your doctor is overly cautious and yes the chances of miscarriage are higher during the 1st 12 weeks but it however does not mean that you'l miscarry. I'm currently 25 wks pregnant via iui and I know that I coudn't wait to tell everyone. There is no way I would've been able to wait 12 wks. However, we did hear the heartbeat via u/s at right under 7 wks. Once they see or hear the heartbeat my RE told me that the chances are very slim and that the fetus is most likely there to stay. Perhaps your doctor will go ahead and give you an u/s. Best of luck.

  • hopeful7, my doctor said it was pointless to give me an u/s prior to 12 wks b/c he said to me that even if he heard a heartbeat now, it can still miscarry. so, he believes in doing the first u/s at 12 wks. i can't wait that long! i wish there was a place i can just go to do an u/s now b/c i think once i hear a heatbeat, i'll feel more relaxed.

  • Lucy, I would recommend possibly switching doctors. If he's not willing to ease your fears then you need to finda provider that will. I am sue Dec 09 and had an ultrasound at 4 and 7 weeks (due to previous m/c of our first pregnancy). They did this early to ease my fears as should any doctor. Hope that helps and congrats on the pregnancy!

  • i'll keep the same doctor. he's a block away from my work, so if i'm still pregnant, the appointments will be very convenient. thanks for the 'congratulations!'
