  • Midwife led birth centre at the hospital.
Categorically NO pethidine (I've already had a bad experience with it) and no other drugs if I can help/avoid it - unless an emergency c-sec is needed. I hope to use a Tens machine early on and later a water pool if possible and play lots of calming/relaxing music.

  • OB, repeat c-section here, something little to take the edge off before the surgery and then spinal.

Hoping that things go as well as last time around and I can come home two days later!

Has info on Tens machines. Basically they have pads that the midwife/dh attatches to your back around your spine, the machine sends out electrical pulses - which on a good machine you can control the intensity of - these help block the pain whilst also stimulating your bodies own natural endorphins (painkiller hormones). Most machines have a seperate button that you hold down during a contraction for a continuous burst of pulses.

(Not sure if the NCT (National Childbirth Trust) exists in the states, but it's a huge and highly respected organisation/charity here.)
