I didn't with either of my kids. Turned out, that if I had tried, I probably wouldn't have lived either time.

My Certified Midwife has delivered more babies than any of the OB/GYNs in my area - they even admitted it to me!!

I trust her completely.

it's good that you have such an accomplished midwife.
A person has to be really careful and research who they choose if they do home births (or even if they choose a midwife to accompany them to the hospital) Not all are created equal, for sure!
With #1, I had preeclampsia, Sarah was breech and I had absolutely NO amniotic fluid. I had an emergency c-section.
With #2, I had pneumonia and a fever of over 103 when I walked into the hospital --- after the water had broken nearly 12 hours earlier--- As soon as I had Andrew (pretty naturally actually, because they wouldn't allow an epidural because of the pneumonia), I started bleeding out. I blacked out as they were talking to me about wheeling me to the Operating room to do emergency work on me.
Seriously, the nurse told me and DH several times that had I been in that situation only 20 years earlier.. in a hospital no less... I very well could have died. Scary to think about that.

After serious back labor with baby #1, I am too chicken to try delivering without pain relief so off to the hospital I will go! I would love to try a water birth or a home birth in our big tub, but my nerves just won't get me there. Also, I use an ob who only does the hospital delivery. I guess malpractice insurance in NY (like most other places) is out of control and he can't practice outside of the hospital and keep his coverage. Bummer. If I could bring him home with me, I might try it.
