Femara, TTC, and HPTs

  • So newest update...I called REs office and asked questions. I've had a miserable experience with this RE and it's the only one in the area that also deals with infertility...darn small town! But anyways, I digress...

They want to put me on aygestin again for 10 days to get AF started again, then on a higher dose of Femara for 5 days (I was previously on it for 10 days, lowest dose). I asked about the possibility of taking this and if I could still be pregnant and they pretty much poo-pooed that idea. The response was "well if it would make you feel better you can wait a week and take another test and then start the aygestin." They basically told me they wouldn't do blood work. I feel really shut down...I don't trust HPTs and I don't know why. Maybe it's just because I want this so badly. I don't know. Anyone else have any HPT stories? Has anyone else had negative HPT but positive bloodwork?? I have no idea whether to push for the b/w or just start the aygestin.....

  • Yes, call and get the bloodwork just to be sure. For your peace of mind, they should be willing to draw your blood. After all they are being PAID for this service. It's not like they're doing you a favor. I had to travel an hour and 10 minutes each way to the fertility clinic and it was worth every minute. Some days, that meant getting up at 5am driving an hour, getting b/w, driving back and getting to work just in time. Keep looking around, keep calling, keep going. If this is something you want badly, you will find that people will tell you to trust your instincts!! It's ok tto be a "b!tch" sometimes. You are your biggest advocate.

WIth that said, usually (but not always) hpts are pretty accurate *if* they are taken at the right time. Problem is, we have no idea when you actually ovulated, or if you actually ovulated. So you could be pregnant and just very early on. My guess is that you probably still didn't ovulate at all, or ovulated very late in your cycle. Are you temping or doing OPKs? I highly recommend doing one or the other. I'm surprised they didn't have you check, to seeif the meds worked.

  • I already drive an hour to the fertility center...it just happens to also only be 15 minutes from my office. I just don't want to have to go further than that...ugh! I'm thinking about just calling my regular doctor and asking her if she'll do the bloodwork so that my mind is at ease.

I was doing OPKs...Answer, the ones with two lines. And they appeared positive, but the RE nurse said that since those are so up to interpretation that I should switch to the (more expensive) yes or no tests and that I should ovulate within 10 days of finishing my Femara. And she told me to use 2MU rather than FMU for OPKs. They don't think I ovulated because they are saying that with the aygestin, AF may be REALLY light. Ugh!!

I did finally make an appt. with the nutritionist though...for next Tuesday. I'm only about 25 lbs over their ideal weight for me (BMI=30 though), but my blood sugars were a little high when I had b/w done for PCOS in December. We'll see how that goes...I'm hoping she can get me on the right track and that getting all around healthy will make this round of drugs work for me...I know there are some ladies out there that have been trying for much longer, but at 23 (24 in just a few weeks...AAHHH!), I feel like it shouldn't be this difficult!!!
