Life Threatening Birth for actress Kathyrn Fiore
She may not be a household name yet, but the actress of The Wedding Band tv series has also in Mission Impossible III, MADtv, and other films and tv shows. However, Fiore is a true survivor after bringing her daughter Alice Harper into the world on May 28. Fiore, 33, is married to actor, Gabriel Tigerman who has appeared on Supernatural and Grey's Anatomy.
Fiore required an emergency cesarean, but things became quite scary quickly as the actress experienced a uterine hemorrhage and required over 2 liters of blood. Then she went into organ failure and septic shock. Her heart, kidneys, lungs and liver all ceased functioning and her limbs were at risk because of blood clotting issues. The critical birth scenario is thought to have been caused by either a rare blood disease called HUS, which could have been caused by the pregnancy or the surgery. Another possibility is the crisis came about due to an amniotic fluid embolism. The baby required assistance breathing at birth and was rushed to the NICU. However, the baby girl was taken home by her father 10 days after her birth.
Fiore's condition stabilized after 12 days, but she has a tough road ahead requiring physical therapy to help her relearn to walk and to regain function in her hands. She has required dialysis and will continue to need these treatments as well as oxygen treatments. Friends of the family have started a fund to help with financial costs as the working acting family's insurance may not be sufficient for all the costs associated with the birth and continuing care. Fiore will also need professional nursing care during this difficult transition. Her husband intends to take time off work to care for his wife and daughter full time.Katlyn Joy is a mother to 7 children, and a freelance writer.
